Visit to the Weald and Downland open Air Museum 24 September 2026

Sixteen members from MVARA visited the site on a lovely September day to explore the over 50 ancient buildings which have been rescued from many areas in the southeast of England and renovated and rebuilt on this beautiful 40-acre Downland site  Members found it fascinating to see how people lived hundreds of years ago, what they ate, how they heated their homes, how they earned a living.  The demonstrations, which included bread making (all the bread being rapidly sold once out of the oven!), wheel making, ploughing and embroidery were particularly enjoyed. The museum prides itself on training a new generation in both these ancient skills and in modern  renovation techniques.

Members also visited The Repair Shop.

There is so much to see and learn here as well as a lovely countryside walk around the Downs. Well worth a visit and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

Next for members will be a visit to the Vyne, dressed for Christmas in December

The Visit to the Vyne is on Tuesday 8 December 2026. The Visit is currently fully booked, but if you would like further details and to join the Waiting List against any cancellation, please contact Linda Doswell via this website.
